Developers can make a difference…

I visited Ghana recently, for the first time in nine long years. When I left all that time ago, ‘they’ were just installing a huge fibre cable all along Africa’s coast and so I expected to find internet heaven - or at least compared to the dial-up connection we had back then. Unfortunately, download speeds are still way below ours and I realised: we have got to take responsibility for our site’s sizes.

Why I use Sketch for webdesign

Sketch is an amazing tool for webdesign. It is equally great for high fidelity interface design as it is for quick mockups or even wireframing. It fits perfectly in a responsive workflow and its interface feels very familiar to anyone with a background in CSS development. Anything you design in Sketch can be translated to modern CSS.

Have a Hippo New Year!

The new year has started and I am full of anticipation over what it will bring. I am really looking forward to this year, for which I have made all kinds of plans. I’m working on a couple of personal projects, one of which will be released in the coming months - hopefully in time for the 2014 edition of the Dutch Joomla Days.

I am a sucker for stationery pads. I buy them from anywhere; from the supermarket, from the wholesale store, or even from Ikea. I use them for taking notes, recording ideas or quickly sketching interface ideas. But when I am exploring layouts, I like to use these columned grid templates.
